Paul Glynn Qualifications
Paul Glynn is an Independent, Self-employed, Marine Surveyor specialising in Yacht and Small Craft surveying in GRP, Steel, and Wood. Based in Ennis within easy reach of Lough Derg and the Shannon Estuary.
Yacht and Boat Experience.
For the past thirty years Paul Glynn has been building, repairing, maintaining sailing yachts and dinghies. He purchased/sold Yachts and Small Craft for himself and others. He carried out Pre-Purchase and Condition Surveys for clients. During all this time, he owned different yachts and dinghies, which he raced and cruised on the West Coast of Ireland. He carried out the following work on Yachts and Small Craft:
GRP hull repair, including structural, internal, external repair.
Inspection of Yachts and Small Craft prior to purchase.
Repair to hulls of marine ply, and timber racing dinghies.
Building of Marine Ply boats.
Installation and service of Deck Equipment, e.g. winches, organisers, also tabernacle repairs and modification.
Engine repairs and servicing, rewiring etc.
Stern gear repair, replacement and alignment.
Electrical and Instrument repair and installation.
Installation of VHF radios and aerials etc.
Gas systems installation and servicing.
Standing Rigging replacement and inspection.
Interior woodworking and cabinet fitting.
Safety equipment fitting and inspection.
Fabrication of yacht parts in stainless steel.
Work Experience.
Paul Glynn started his working life in 1964 as an Aircraft Apprentice, and after five years training, graduated as an aircraft engine technician. After this he started work in industry, He has worked for a Tyre Manufacturer in Dublin, Steel Cord Manufactures in Limerick and worked for over thirty years as maintenance supervisor in a Pharmaceutical Company in Ennis.
For almost all of that time he had been an Engineering Supervisor. This involves supervising craftsmen in maintenance duties, e.g. Machining, Welding, Boiler, Refrigeration, HVAC, material testing, and many other tasks. Also , he received training in all the equipment that he was responsible for, as well as Management Training and people handling skills.
Over the years he found that his industrial training and experience was vital when he needed to carry out work on yachts/boats etc. At present, he is surveying yachts and small craft on a full time basis. For the past two years, he studied Yacht and Small Craft surveying with the International Institute of Marine Surveying, and successfully passed their examination on 29.11.2006.
Education.
Paul Glynn attended the Ennis Christian Brothers School, both Primary/Secondary, also went to the Ennis Technical School. Served his Apprenticeship as an Aircraft Technician in the Irish Air Corps, during this time he attended Bolton Street Collage in Dublin and studied Mechanical Engineering. Also, he studied in the University of Limerick for two years and obtained a management diploma, in Supervisory Management
